SELECTED ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Developed the health and safety requirements for the upgrade/renovation of a joint military facility in the naval base in Rota, Spain, and provided health and safety oversight of the general and subcontractors during the eighteen month project. Oversight included review and comment of submitted health and safety plans, participation in monthly strategy/scheduling meetings that included military and civilian management, team leader during incident investigations, and performing unscheduled compliance inspections. Interacted on a regular basis with U.S. and Spanish military personnel and contractors during regular meetings and site inspections.
Provided safety and health oversight for the construction of a 600,000 square foot pharmaceutical research facility. Oversight included site-specific safety plan development for the construction of a 600,000 square foot research and development facility for an international pharmaceutical firm on a contaminated property. Environmental conditions initially required elevated levels of personal protective equipment for contractor employees. Redesigned work activity processes to allow for standard Level D protective equipment which provided full protection to the employees and maintained project schedule
and costs.
Developed a company and project-specific health & safety program for an international chemical manufacturer’s state-of-the-art research & development facility. The successful program required extensive research into current and potentially applicable regulatory standards and industry guidelines. The research entailed the identification and recommendation of alternative raw products to ease regulatory requirements, as well as anticipated changes in regulatory standards.
Developed and implemented a Job Hazard Assessment program to evaluate and identify physical, chemical and biological hazards that were present during the extension of the pier in Naval Weapons Station Earle in New Jersey. The program included designing a hazard identification and rating system that had to incorporate the Navy’s security parameters and adapt to the unique operating conditions. Implementation required flexibility concerning operational security accessibility restrictions during loading activities. Participated in weekly scheduling meetings that included base command, security and contractor representatives.
Designed and instituted an employee and environmental exposure assessment program that reduced regulatory compliance costs 15% for a petroleum manufacturer/refining operation. The program identified excessive costs pertaining to training, personal protective equipment that was either unnecessary or redundant, and process chemicals that had less expensive alternatives.
Developed an effective employee and management training program that decreased a manufacturing client’s Injury/Illness and Fatality rate (EMR) from 2.6 to 0.9 within a twelve month period. The training program was designed based on the results of a review/assessment of the client’s 3-year loss-time records, and identifying three primary areas that needed improvement; employee training, production line design/ergonomics, and management leadership.
