OBJECTIVE
Pursuing a technical position with an organization that is expanding, where innovative thinking , experience, and teamwork can build services, products, projects, and developments…
SUMMARY
Motivated, creative and versatile electronics/electrical technician with fifteen years combined experience in navigational/surface search radar, communications, power distribution systems, biomedical transfusion, research and design of prototype and test equipment, satellite communication and gps systems, hydrogen fuel cells, energy-reduction/management projects with results-producing track record. Energetic self-starter, with leadership experience, a fast learner, with good interpersonal, analytical and creative skills. Innovative and committed to excellence.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND HIGHLIGHTS
Power Distribution Inc.
As test bay technician, involved in research and development of new and existing products. STS (Static Transfer Switch), PDU (Power Distribution Unit) standard configuration and most variants, RPP (Remote Power Pack), FAA STS (Auto Bypass Switch), HSP (High Speed Mechanical Switch), Stand alone, Primary and secondary systems, Hydrogen Fuel Cell. Also involved heavily with engineering in development of test fixtures for following:
These projects also allowed engineering to test new products, software, and upgrades on existing systems and design and improve on current configurations.
Other projects and assignments included:
Test Power System - Allowed for a centralized, uniform integration of source power so that all test fixtures could plug universally into same power outlet. This simplified swapping from one fixture to another without the need to rewire source power and cause faults by interchanging different units. Modified 25kva transformer with control circuitry for independent power control and emergency power off protection.
Portable Load banks - Repaired damage and improved wiring for equipment. Added safety circuits, over voltage protection and convenience features to facilitate testing and personnel safety.
Test bay Switchgear - Made routine repairs, modifications and improvements on test power switchgear. Integrated test power system for test rigs which made it possible to use test units in both engineering pcb room and test bay area. Designed and installed high current power feeds and independent contactor control for full load testing of PDU’s in PDU test area. This freed up STS test area and allowed for testing of more product simultaneously at maximum load requirements. Repaired EPO circuits and modified to shunt trip hi current feeds. Pre-wired for 120v fused receptacles to minimize use of extension cords and increase safety by removing tripping hazards.
Exterior Load banks (Saturn 2000kw) - Rewired, repaired and modified all outside load assets to include maintenance switch, moderate overhaul of resistive elements and control circuits, wiring, and components.
Documentation - Often involved in implementing changes and developing new test reports, procedures, training on advanced products and test rigs.
Designed M4 Module burn-in rack
Created a station to simultaneously burn-in up to twenty M4 modules with independent power control and redundant fault protection. This allowed for PDI to run this assembly for days or weeks without using excessive power (separate from transformer) and weed out boards that may fail in the field after leaving test. Saved costs by reducing service calls for faulty assemblies.
Designed M4 Monitor test module:
Allowed for full testing of DCM PCB, ASIM PCB, Display and related options for PDU’s. Included input control with voltage selection, dual and single input capability and test of all standard fault alarms, phase reversal, shunt trip tests. Built module and desktop variant. Both were integrated into test power system.
STS test bench - Allowed for full testing and troubleshooting of all PCB’s used in SBR/STS series. Simulated entire static switch and was integrated into test power system.
Designed STS Logic Module integration to STS test bench - Modified STS test bench to accept logic module assembly to test control wiring and full operation for 208v configuration. This gave test ability to test assemblies and not just individual boards.
Designed FAA test bench - Allowed full testing of all PCB’s used in FAA STS, simulated entire static switch and was integrated into test power system. Also designed to test logic module, transformer module, scr module, and chassis wire harness for system.
Three years experience with all related critical power products and applications. Performed preventative maintenance on Mitsubishi, Liebert Powerware, United Power, APC, Best Power, and other related manufacturers ups systems, startup and commissioning, emergency services and repair, power quality analysis and load testing. Developed load bank automation for week long auto testing. Designed test equipment for ups testing and repair…Began working in engineering, plc programming and control circuitry design.
Served aboard DDG-66 USS Gonzalez, and Arliegh Burke class guided missile destroyer. The Aegis weapons platform is one of the most advanced electronics environments in the fleet. Performed numerous duties and was put in charge of entire radar work-center as work-center supervisor.
Electrical Mechanic: 6 years commercial, residential. Control wiring, all aspects of conduit installation, hydraulic table and Chicago (sidewinder) benders, pipe threading, various service equipment, fire alarm systems, ct cabinets, transformers, 115-277-480-600 volt applications and devices, three phase power
Starting to develop automation and control systems, projects in various areas.
Detailed Work History
East Coast Technical Services East Coast initially refurbished used modem systems for LAN/WAN networks, as a test technician our duties included running scripted diagnostics of the systems data transfers, burning updated software on eprom chips and I was also involved in some inventory control work.
United States Navy
Started my training in basic AEEE electronics school for 6 months, covered AC/DC fundamentals, conductance, resistance, electron theory, power supplies, oscillators, amplifiers. Progressed into superhedrodyning, AM/FM propagation, logic and magnetic storage theory, and also vacuum tubes.
After this I attended rating school as an ET and we had both radar and communications training, covering system, board, and component level troubleshooting and repair, also learned teletype, single side band radio system, surface search and navigational radar systems and indicator sets. Tthis was another 6 months of training.
Following this I attended a number of C schools (specialized equipment training) covering 3m board repair, IFF (Identify Friend or Foe), UPX-29 systems and OE-120 antenna array, these combined to almost another year of training.
Following this I was assigned to Destroyer Group Eighteen abourg an Arliegh Birk Class Destroyer, her I added NTDS, Satcom, and a number of shipboard systems to my experience level, some of this is I the referrals included. I also trained as work center supervisor here, and as an E4 finished 3m maintenance qualifications in 3 weeks, this normally took 3 months, I was the only of 2 E4s to be assigned as work center supervisor on the ship, a rare qualification that early.
Watson Electric
This consisted mostly of commercial electrical work including conduit installation, wiring electrical devices and building electrical rooms for various stores such as Home Depot, Target, there were some apartment complexes as well, learned operation of hydraulic benders and many 3 phase power applications, some control wiring as well. I also started the apprentiship here and was in it for 9 months
Tribble Electric
This consisted mostly of residential work with some smaller commercial work not much new with this one.
Power Distribution Inc.
This was very involved and I developed a lot here, most of this is detailed already above.
Arc Electric
This consisted mostly of commercial electrical work, the main difference being that I was able to learn the fire alarm systems in weeks and was put in charge of the crew for the Short Pump Mall system, ran 6 mechanics (journeyman electricians) in finishing the system installation and startup. Was a temp here during the project and they made me a foreman after seeing what I did with the system.
Precision Power Inc.
This consisted mostly of critical power products and applications. Performed preventative maintenance ups systems, startup and commissioning, emergency services and repair, power quality analysis and load testing. We specialized in finding some of the real crazy problems no one could deal with. I had full factory training on Mitsubishi product line, had a course on lightning strikes, harmonic attenuation, power quality diagnostics and battery technologies. We serviced anyone who had a ups, from manufacturing to office to military and even nuclear facilities, serviced the entire Northrop Grumman shipyard in Newport News, BWX technologies, hospitals, had great customer relations and 24 hour emergency support for most areas. Also refurbished a number of used ups systems as well.
